Welcome to the Official DNK F.A.Q. Hopefully this board can clear up a few of the finer points that may be brought up for anyone of inquisitive tastes. While this thread itself will be locked feel free to post any questions you might have in the DNK discussions board, and they will be addressed by the staff in no time.
Q 1: What is Death Note: Kira Game?
Death Note: Kira Game (*DNK) is a multiplayer videogame project currently underway. This project takes the setting and character roles from the popular anime series 'Death Note' and allows the players to slip into those cunning shoes. The game will feature a busy world filled with NPC's, a working Notebook of Death system, a hierarchy of police powers and the ultimate goal- to come out on top.
Q 2:What is this game being developed / released for?
This game is being developed for the BYOND (Build Your Own Net Dream) game programme. It will be hosted on the byond.com website and will be free to play through their service. Note that this game is not endorsed by the copyright holders of Death Note as it is a non-profit fangame.
Q 3: Why did we begin this project?
Because I was bored.
Also, because there was a time when multiple Death Note roleplaying games existed on the BYOND catalogue. These proved to be some of the best gaming experiences on the system, always providing fresh new ideas to a core concept that opened as many possibilities as players could invent. Over time these games have stopped being supported or hosted, and we wanted to see the communities reunited and those adventures resurrected!
Q 4: Is this project affiliated with other Death Note games?
DNK is not affiliated with any previous Death Note BYOND title. It seeks to emulate some of the brilliance of previous games and will naturally follow a similar formula to those that came before, throwing in as many unique twists as the designers can think of. Graphic and programming work has been built entirely from scratch and with full consent of their creators (in Alpha stages the odd graphic proxy may be in place).
Q 5:How much of the game has been developed?
Given how recently this project started a surprising amount. Much of the basic codework is already done and is being built upon steadily. The game already has a wash of good quality sprite and pixel work on display and with more being added every day. With a few supporting hands the work will be completed even sooner, but at the current rate the Alpha version will likely be playable within a few months or less.
Q 6:Where are we going next?
Once all the basic code and graphic is polished up a few test runs will be had, and maps generated and tested. This will involve bug and server testing as well as experimenting with the in game verbs and player abilities- be sure to sign up if you want to be a Test Pilot!
